Abstract

The field of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) research on the effectiveness of pedagogical interventions has evolved in response to the growing challenges posed by disinformation. Against this backdrop, this study conducts a systematic literature review to identify and characterize the main research trends shaping this area of inquiry. Following the PRISMA protocol and incorporating natural language processing techniques, 27 relevant studies were selected and analyzed. The findings reveal significant tensions within the field, some of which became particularly salient with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of these findings, the study offers an integrative overview of the field, addressing the fragmentation of perspectives and results across the literature. It ultimately advocates for a more ecological and systemic approach to MIL, one that avoids reductionist interpretations and more adequately accounts for the complexity of disinformation.
