Voices of Africa and the symbolism of fiction: echoes of ethnic-religious prejudice in a Tent of Miracles

This text appropriates the symbolisms of religiosity in Afro-Brazilianmini-series Tent of Miracles, inspired by the novel by the same name of Jorge Amado, to reflect on ethnic-religious prejudices in African Brazilian society, especially in the state of Bahia. Fragments of chapters, descriptions of the scenes and interviews with practitioners are used to contextualize the mythology of candomblé. It is argued that these constitute spaces of discussion of racial inequality and the resignification of cultural practices.
