This article investigates the representation of motherhood among female villains in Brazilian telenovelas. To this end, we trace the transformation of villainy throughout the history of Brazilian telenovelas and examine how this shift reflects changes in women’s social roles. Thus, we offer a theoretical reflection on the role of fiction in constructing and increasing the complexity of female villains, while relating this process to debates on femininity, motherhood, and their representations. Motherhood and villainy are understood here as overlapping yet ambivalent categories.
