Abstract

This article analyzes the Instagram profiles of three established Brazilian influencers in the motherhood niche, investigating how certain events are established as key moments within their digital narratives. Grounded in the concept of performative scripts and engaging with studies on motherhood, influencers, and consumer culture, the study conducts an exploratory analysis to understand the structuring and mediatization of maternal experience. The findings indicate the recurrence of seven events: pregnancy announcement; gender reveal party; maternity photoshoot; photographic/video documentation of childbirth, accompanied by the mother’s account; newborn photoshoot; monthly milestone celebrations; and the child’s first birthday party. We argue that these events constitute the rituals through which motherhood is monetized. They are central to gaining recognition among advertisers and audiences and form replicable, monetizable scripts.
